Chew on This | Rosemary Cheddar Biscuits and Sausage Gravy

Sometimes when I make a recipe I know going in that I'll probably be the only person in the house that will truly enjoy the full outcome. I start off telling myself that certainly someone, at the very least The Husband, will partake in the goodness that I'm fixing. But inevitably, the small children turn their noses up to an amazing plate of awesomeness and ask to do chores instead. And rarely, The Husband will turn his nose up, too. It's pitiful.

Biscuits and gravy is one of those recipes that gets a mixed review here. The Sprite would not touch sausage gravy with a ten foot pole. Nose turned up instantly. However, she would devour a dozen Rosemary Cheddar Biscuits as fast as I could make them. The Boy, on the other hand, would scarf up the sausage gravy and maybe eat the biscuit. It just depends on the day.

The Husband? He'd initially turn up his nose. Then he'd eat it and he'd really like it.

Don't let the quirkiness of my family keep you from the goodness that is these Rosemary Cheddar Biscuits and Sausage Gravy. They'll fill you up and keep you wanting more.

As for me, I don't feel too guilty that I've made something mostly for me. Mmmm, good!

Cares

Here's our recipe:

Rosemary Cheddar Drop Biscuits
(makes about 12 biscuits)

2 C flour
2 t baking powder
1 t salt
1/2 C melted butter (one stick)
1 C milk
1 heaping T rosemary, chopped
1 C shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat your oven to 425℉ and lightly grease a cookie sheet.

In a mixing bowl, sift together your flour, baking powder and salt. Add your melted butter, milk and chopped rosemary. Stir together, just a few times, to combine. Fold in your shredded cheese until just combined. Don't over mix.

Drop spoonfuls of batter onto the cookie sheet and bake your biscuits for 10-13 minutes. Remove and Enjoy!

While your biscuits are baking, make your Sausage Gravy!!

Sausage Gravy
16 ounces bulk pork sausage
1/4 C flour
1/2 t salt
1 t pepper
1/2 t onion powder
1/2 t garlic powder
1 t seasoned salt
2 1/2 - 3 C milk

In a large sauté pan, crumble and cook your sausage over medium heat until completely browned. Pour off any extra grease from the pan and then sprinkle your flour over the cooked sausage. Allow the flour to cook and absorb into the meat. Next, add your spices: salt, pepper, onion and garlic powders and the seasoned salt. Stir to incorporate.

Finally, gradually add your milk. Cook the gravy until thickened. Taste to ensure you have your seasonings just the way you like them and adjust, if necessary. Serve gravy over biscuits and enjoy a delicious, cozy meal.
