Chew on This | Homemade Breadsticks

Happy Summer!

We're just a few days into the actual summer season, yet my kids have been out of school almost three weeks now. We've already packed our days with lots of wonderful things and many memory worthy experiences. We've kind of been going at break-neck speed since school let out and now, this week, we are actually taking a tiny breath and slowing just a touch.

Today we actually got an unexpected pause to the schedule when The Sprite's (my daughter's) sporting event was cancelled due to thunderstorms. The rain was such a blessing for many reasons but mostly because my girl had actually just gotten her braces on an hour before her event was to start! She was so excited to get some new bling on her teeth but was a bit worried about playing today in case her mouth was a bit sore.

No worries! She wasn't even slightly sore and the rain gave her a nice quiet evening to get used to her new metal. And gave the rest of us a chance to revel in her new adventure!

Happy Summer, friends!

Here's our recipe:

Don't have a lot of time? No worries! These breadsticks whip up pretty quickly and can get into the oven within 30 minutes.

Homemade Breadsticks
1 C warm water
1 T sugar
1 t salt
1 t garlic powder
1/4 C oil
3 C flour
2 1/2 t active dry yeast
seasoned salt
melted butter

Preheat oven to 350℉. Lightly grease a baking sheet with cooking spray.

In a large bowl, add ingredients in order listed. Combine ingredients using a mixer and bread hook, or by hand. When dough has formed and is still a bit sticky, pinch off a nice sized hunk and roll into a rope. Place dough rope onto a prepared baking sheet. Continue until all the dough is used (you should be able to make about 12 breadsticks). Sprinkle the dough ropes with seasoned salt, if desired.

Allow the dough ropes to rise for about 20 minutes and then place the baking sheet into the preheated oven for 10-13 minutes. When breadsticks are done, remove from the oven and brush each breadstick with some melted butter, if desired. Eat and enjoy!!
