Who Knew? How To...Tiered Servers.

We're linking up with Stie for 'How-To tuesdays' - Welome!

If you're going to serve some mini chocolate chunk zucchini cupcakes, shouldn't you do it in style? These cupcakes are certainly delightful, but plating them up on a sassy tiered server just raises the bar, don't you think?

Making a tiered server like this only takes a few items and very little time. And the possibility for cuteness overload is only limited to the dishes you choose.

Your first step is to hunt down the pretty plates you want to use to make your server. Shop around and look for something unique, something that stands out. Or be like me, go to Target and buy some inexpensive melamine plates in Spring-y festive colors and designs. It really doesn't matter, get some ceramic, china, melamine or glass plates. Plain white, colorful, solid colors or busily designed dishes. Get whatever tickles your fancy.

These are the plates I chose. I bought dinner sized plates for the bottom tier and salad sized plates for the top tier. I even got a bowl to use, just to change things up! I know, walking on the wild side over here.

Second, you'll need to get some 4" glass candlesticks and some E-6000 glue.
I bought my candlesticks at the local dollar store for, uhmmm, a dollar each. And the glue was purchased at Jo-Ann Fabrics for $5 (a little goes a long way).

Now to begin the assembly! Make sure your plates and candlesticks are clean. Before gluing, place the candlestick on the plate to get an idea where you think the center is. Now take out your measuring tape, level, protractor and hire an engineer to find the perfect center...right, just kidding.

Flip over your candlestick, wide end facing up, and spread a thin layer of your glue onto the bottom rim of said candlestick. Per the E-6000 glue instructions, wait between 2-20 minutes before adhering glued item to another surface. I waited approximately 2:01 minutes before placing the candlestick on the plate. I practice patience every chance I get.

Next, a thin layer of glue onto the top rim of the candlestick. Wait, wait, wait. Now place the smaller plate onto the top of the candlestick. Allow the glue to set for 24 hours.

This is what I made in less than 30 minutes. Three tiered servers and one chip and dip server. It really is so fun and easy to make these servers. And what lovely and affordable gifts they make for family and friends. You may even consider making one for your nemesis it's so darn fun!

Clean your servers by hand with mild soap and warm water.

Enjoy!

  1. I LOVE THIS! And never would have thought of it on my own!!!

I love the chip/dip idea... what a great hostess gift that would be... my "famous" spinich dip and cubed breads would be perfect in that! (Just go with it... K? It's what everyone asks me to bring, most likely because they're afraid of anything else I would cook.)

    Excellent idea! -J

  3. PERFECT!! You could even use random dishes you find at yard sales that are awesome but not part of a complete set. What a cool idea, I will have to file that one away in my brain and put it to use! Thank you.
