Chew on This | Fried Angel Food Cake with Ganache and Strawberries

Who in the world would take a light and airy dessert like Angel Food Cake and make it buttery and fried and covered in ganache? Oh, and also sprinkle said cake with healthy strawberries.

That would be me. I'm sinful that way.

This awesome combination of delicious is not my original idea. A wonderful restaurant near my home has been making this specialty for years and years. Thus, I've been making my home version for years and years.

I made this Angel Food Cake and ganache from scratch. They were totally worth it and scrumptious. The recipes are at the bottom of this post if you are inclined to make from scratch as well!

However, to make things super easy on yourself, go to the grocery and purchase an Angel Food Cake from the bakery. Before checking out swing by the produce section and buy some beautiful red strawberries. Then scamper down the aisle with the chocolate sauce, grab some and Bob's your uncle!

To make, in a fry pan, melt some butter over low heat. Slice a hunk of cake and set it in the pan to fry, toast, become crispy and decadent. Brown each and every side. Add more butter if needed - no slouching on the butter!

While the cake is frying, clean and cut your strawberries and warm your chocolate sauce.
Place the perfectly fried Angel Food Cake on a plate, drizzle with chocolate sauce and sprinkle with strawberries! Enjoy you devils!

Here are the recipes:

Angel Food Cake with Ganache and Strawberries

Angel Food Cake:
10 egg whites
1 C flour, sifted
1 C powdered sugar, sifted
2 t vanilla
1 1/2 t cream of tartar
1/2 t salt
1 C granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 350℉. Have an ungreased tube pan or bundt pan ready for batter.

Place egg whites in a bowl. Add your vanilla, cream of tartar and salt. Beat mixture on high speed. While egg whites are beating, slowly add your granulated sugar. Continue to beat mixture on high speed until stiff peaks form.

While you're beating your egg whites, sift together your flour and powdered sugar in a separate bowl.

When the egg whites are ready (stiff peaks have formed), slowly fold in your flour mixture, a little bit at a time. When flour mixture is incorporated, carefully pour cake batter into your ungreased pan. Make sure to remove any air bubbles in the batter by poking through the batter with a knife before placing the pan into the oven.

Bake at 350℉ for approximately 35-40 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely before removing the cake from the pan.

Ganache:
2 C semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 C heavy cream

In a microwave safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and cream. Microwave on half power for 30 seconds - stir. Continue to cook in the microwave for 30 second intervals, on half power, until the ganache is smooth and warm.

Fried Angel Food Cake with Ganache and Strawberries:
1 Angel Food Cake
1 recipe ganache
1 quart strawberries, cleaned and sliced
2 T (or more) butter
Fry pan

In a fry pan, melt some butter over low heat. Slice a hunk of cake and set it in the pan to fry. Brown each side. Add more butter if needed.

When cake is finished, place on a plate, drizzle with ganache and sprinkle with strawberries! Enjoy!
