Chew on This | Sweet Kebabs

My babies start school next week. The Boy will be entering kindergarten. The Sprite, second grade. They are ready and so happy to be starting a new school year. I know how they feel.

I've always loved this time of year. The excitement of a new school year still bubbles within me. New pencils, fresh crayons and folders. Making text book covers out of paper grocery bags. Seeing friends daily, cheer practice, football games and calculus (seriously).
New outfits. New crushes. Good times.

One thing about school (especially if there was practice after school), was that fact that I was always feeling starved by the time I got home. The same holds true for The Sprite. When she trots off the bus at the end of a day she is famished. I'm sure The Boy will be no different.

Here, an after school snack to tamp down the hunger. Fruit, buttery toasted pound cake chunks and honey or chocolate to dunk in. Something sweet and sort of, kind of, a teeny bit....oh never mind. This surely can't be labeled the healthiest snack in the world but it surely is good!

These Sweet Kebabs are something delicious to tide the hungry over until dinner.

No complaints here!

Happy new school year to you and yours!

Here's the recipe:
Sweet Kebabs
(six servings)

Sweet Kebabs:
12 cubes pound cake - two 1" slices cut into 6 cubes each
18 strawberries - cleaned and hulled
2 small bananas - cut into six large slices
1 T butter
6 wooden skewers

Kebab Dips:
1/2 C dark chocolate chips
1/4 scant C heavy cream
1/4 C honey

Prepare all of your fruit and set aside.

In a small skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Place pound cake cubes into the skillet and allow cubes to toast on all sides. Remove from heat.

Begin making kebabs by skewering a strawberry, then a toasted pound cake followed by a large banana slice. Another strawberry, toasted pound cake and finish with a final strawberry. Enjoy as is or dunk in dip!

Kebab Dips
In a microwave safe bowl, combine dark chocolate chips and heavy cream. Microwave on high approximately 20-30 seconds. Stir to blend ingredients into a ganache.

Pour ganache into a serving dish. Pour honey into a different serving dish. Present dips with your Sweet Kebabs and enjoy.
