Chew on This | Walking Tacos

Yippee! Yahoo! It's football season! We love it, we love it, we love it.

We officially have one football player and one cheerleader in the house at the moment. It's a riot! We've had weeks of practices. Many scrimmages. And last Saturday morning we had our first regular season games. Which were awesome, nerve wracking and thrilling!

It's going to be a busy season and we look forward to our full weekends. We also look forward to the fun food we'll be enjoying at tailgates and the games.

Take for instance - Walking Tacos! Sounds crazy, right? Well, they're simply genius. Individual chip bags double as a portable food carrying device and provides edible crunch factor to your meal. Add in spicy taco meat and any taco fixing your heart desires and you've created a Walking Taco!

I tried my first one on Saturday evening while watching my nephew and his teammates pummel their opponents 33-0! Seriously, nothing could have been more perfect - about the game and the food!

Take it from me, these babies are clever and delicious. Perfect football food!

Here's our recipe:

Walking Tacos
(6-8 servings)
1 pound ground beef
1/2 medium sweet onion, diced
1 (one ounce) package taco seasoning
3/4 C water
6-8 individual sized bags of Doritos, Fritos or your favorite chips
1 C salsa
2 C shredded lettuce
1 1/2 C shredded cheddar cheese
1 C sour cream

To make these awesome tailgate treats, start by cooking your ground beef and onions in a large skillet over medium heat. When your beef has browned, drain off the excess oil and add in your taco seasoning and water. Stir and simmer the meat over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes. Remove meat from heat and set aside for walking taco assembly.

To assemble, grab a bag of chips and open. Slightly crush your chips and then spoon your warm taco meat over the crushed chips. Next add salsa, shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar and then top with a dollop of sour cream. Find a fork and dig in!
