Chew on This | Sandwich from Heaven

Months ago I was watching a repeat 'Best Thing I Ever Ate' on the Food Network.  I really do enjoy this show, particularly when they come to my neck of the woods.  It's neat.  Anyway, I can't remember the theme of the episode I was watching (and I've even tried looking it up for 'research' sake, but couldn't locate the episode) and I see a sandwich that really catches my eye.  It captures my heart.  My stomach.  Again, I'm sorry I can't reference the restaurant or the genius chef who has brought this wonder into my life. But I want to thank you - deeply.

It's only taken me about three months to get around to making this world wonder, but I think I've assembled all the proper ingredients. So, what took me so long?  Obviously things I thought were more important.  But now I know the truth - nothing is more important than this sandwich right now.  Nothing.  And when you make it, you'll see the light too.

Pumpernickel bread, orange marmalade, bacon, Gruyere cheese and butter.

Slather a delicious helping of marmalade onto the bread.

Sliced Gruyere cheese next.

Cooked bacon - only three strips.  Not too crazy, right?

More cheese atop the bacon and marmalade onto the second slice of pumpernickel.

Butter your bread and warm your skillet.  Toast it up and serve.

This unassuming looking sandwich is going to flip your lid.  You may not recover.  Though you probably will recover long enough to make another.

Your welcome.

Recipe:

Sandwich from Heaven

2 slice pumpernickel bread
orange marmalade
3 strips cooked bacon
Gruyere cheese
butter

Slather one side of your pumpernickel bread with your orange marmalade.  Next, layer on some slice of Gruyere cheese.  Stack on your bacon.  Add another layer of Gruyere cheese.  Slather marmalade on the second piece of bread and place on top.

Butter both outside sides of your pumpernickel and place in a warmed skillet.  Cover skillet with a lid to ensure the cheese is melting.  Flip sandwich when bottom bread is toasted and crispy.  When second side is done, plate, cut and relish the goodness.  You won't be disappointed.
