They’re delicious. They’re chewy. They’re full of goodness. And could they be any easier to make? (picture Chandler Bing saying this)
The base of this recipe is just plain simple. Possibly even considered...lazy. And couldn't we all use a little lazy after a full Thanksgiving weekend? This recipe centers around a boxed cake mix with a few extras added in. Today's extras - figs and walnuts. You can't get much better than that. Well, except maybe by adding chocolate chunks, coconut and pecans. Or dried apricots, almonds and dried cranberries.
I could continue to digress, I shant. Let’s make cookie bars.
I could continue to digress, I shant. Let’s make cookie bars.
Get yourself a bowl and combine your cake mix, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Swirl that all together and then add your eggs. Mix it up.
Now, add your melted butter. Mmmmm butter. Mix, mix, mix.
Awww, looks good. This is our base. Add what you want. Goodbye.
Spread that goodness in a prepared pan and bake. Here’s what you get.
Eat, eat, eat...ahhh!
Here's the recipe:
Fig and Walnut Bars
1 box yellow cake mix
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
3/4 cup melted butter
2 eggs
3/4 to 1 cup dried figs
3/4 to 1 cup walnuts
Preheat oven to 350° F. Spray a 9x13 inch pan with baking spray.
Blend together cake mix, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large bowl. Next add melted butter and eggs. Mix until a stiff batter forms. Add figs and walnuts and then spread into your prepared pan.
Bake for 35-40 minutes or until edges of bars are just browned. Take out from oven and cool. Cut into bars and eat up!
