Chew on This | Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip

The Recorder - you know, that plastic, clarinet-ish looking instrument school children get to experience prior to choosing a 'real' instrument to play? Well, it has made it's debut here. The Sprite (my daughter) is the household recorder aficionado and she has been gracing us with her skills for weeks now.

It has been awesome.

She whips out that recorder daily and plays us a riff of music that will be played during her class spring concert. Imagine…lots of kids with lots of recorders playing lots of cheerful music. Splendid.

This recorder responsibility has been a real thrill for her. She has been diligent about practicing. She expertly cleans and cares for the instrument. She studies her notes and has worked to memorize her songs. It is wonderful to see. And hear.

The Boy (my son), on the other hand, is none too thrilled with the recorder. At first I thought he was a tad jealous. Umm, no. That's not it. "How much longer do I have to listen to this?" The Boy asks me in his most growl-y voice. I pause, hearing the sweet and squawky notes drifting down the stairs. Giving him a softened version of the stink eye, but the stink eye nonetheless, I tell him to head on down to the basement to play a coveted video game for thirty minutes. Relief spreads across his face.

And so, the recorder is here.
Sweet and Squawky.

A quick and healthy snack for your musician (or anyone), Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip. Easily whipped up and served with graham crackers or on a toasted tortilla topped with sliced strawberries. A favorite full of protein for long practice sessions!

Here's our recipe:
Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip

3/4 C smooth or chunky peanut butter
1/2 C low-fat vanilla yogurt (I used vanilla Greek yogurt)

Place peanut butter into a small microwave safe bowl. Just slightly warm peanut butter in the microwave for 10-15 seconds, just until it is easy to stir. Add in your yogurt and combine thoroughly. Cover and place into the refrigerator until ready to serve. Serve dip with graham crackers and fruit or use as a spread on toasted bread or tortillas and top with fruit! Enjoy!
